Brendan Lovechild - Stand up comic & cartoonist |
|
|
Brendan grew up in suburban Sydney. Leaving school at 16 to pursue a career in graphic arts, he quickly became quite a problem, drawing cartoons of his fellow workers that were a little too close to the bone for their liking. Surprise, surprise, Brendan had to go. For some reason he dropped his pens & pencils & became a landscaper & bricklayer. Always clowning around on building sites, writing graffitti on anything & everything, it seems he was destined for a career in humour. In 2000 Brendan made his stand-up comedy debut, which in his own words was "absolutely perfect....everything went wrong!" It could only get better from there & it certainly has. These days Brendan has quite a string of credits as both a stand-up comic & cartoonist. He performed at the Sydney Opera House, Splendour In The Grass 2006, JJJ Cockatoo Island Fest 2005, Woodford Folk Fest 2002-2006, Sydney Comedy Store, The Last Laugh Comedy Club, Melb & just about every comedy club around. Brendan has appeared on "Stand Up Australia", and his stand up work has been aired nationally on JJJ radio. |

He has worked with some of the best including Akmal Saleh, Arj Barker, Greg Fleet, Gary Who, Steddy Eddy, Wil Anderson, Kitty Flannagan, Puppetry Of The Penis & loads more. Brendan has done corperate comedy shows for Harley Davidson, Hewlett & Packard & the Australian ATO just to name a few. His cartoons have been published nationally in newspapers & magazines such as The Big Issue, Nova, The Byron Echo, The Nthn Star, Insight, Wingspan, Nimbin Goodtimes, Arena, Rabalais & more. In 2006 he featured in comic tv commercials for Uncle Tobys, NSW State Lotteries & The Brisbane Motor Show (which won an industry award!) |
Brendan performed his one man show, "I Wish I'd Never Been A Chicken" at the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The show featured a clever mix of his cartoons interspersed with regular stand-up. At the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, a powerpoint display of Brendans cartoons was selected as a finalist in "The Quick And Dirty Film Festival", which was shown on the big screen at Federation Square as part of the festivals film program. If all that wasn't enough...in 2008, Brendan also released his first book, which features over 100 of his cartoons. The book was described as "Brilliant!" by fellow comic, Jimeoin. |

About Brendan Lovechild, "I Wish I'd Never Been A Chicken":
"The laughs were great but the message of your show was truly uplifting. Comedy is a gift that few people do very well, but to inspire someone with positivity is something very few people choose to do, I guess that's what makes you truly special." Beth (audience member, via email) "Terrific show...we LOVED it. Brendan is a HUGE talent!" - Andrew Guild, AG Productions. (www.agproductions.com.au) "I really admired the way you handled a 7 year old child and her father slipping into your gig unexpectedly at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. As a paying customer I felt I got more than my money's worth (not that it was expensive!!) You could have ignored her completely and carried on with your show as planned but you chose to change your material on the spot in a way that still had the adults rolling with laughter without upsetting or isolating her. I speak about reputation, trust and integrity and would definitely recommend you to others given the way you acted so professionally. You delivered a laugh-a-minute show, under unusual constraints, with integrity. Good on you Brendan." - Hannah Samuel - Speaker, Author & Reputation Advisor. (www.hannahsamuel.com) "Brendan Lovechild has a talent for making something funny out of simple interactions with the audience." - Fran, Funny Tonne (www.comedyfestival.com.au) "Thanks so much for your work last week – you were a HUGE success!" - Megan Carrabott, Hewlett-Packard Australia |
